Priyanka Gandhi Vadra
Updated

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was born on 12 January 1972. Her parents are Rajiv Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. She married Robert Vadra on 18 February 1997, and the couple have a son and a daughter. Her parliamentary biography records a postgraduate diploma in Buddhist Studies from the University of Sunderland in the United Kingdom, alongside her work in politics.
Congress appointed Gandhi Vadra as a general secretary in January 2019, assigning her responsibility in Uttar Pradesh. A 2022 account by state Congress president Ajay Kumar Lallu describes subsequent changes to state, district and block committees and a programme of worker training. Those descriptions are the party’s account of its organisational work under her leadership, rather than an independent assessment of its electoral effects.
Gandhi Vadra was elected from Wayanad, Kerala, in the by-election to the eighteenth Lok Sabha on 23 November 2024. The Lok Sabha member directory records her affiliation as Indian National Congress and her constituency as Wayanad. Her election added a parliamentary constituency role to her existing organisational responsibilities within Congress. The by-election is recorded separately from the 2024 general election.
Her parliamentary record lists membership of the joint committee on the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Ninth Amendment) Bill, 2024, and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024, from 20 December 2024. Congress also identified her as both a Lok Sabha member and AICC general secretary in an April 2026 press conference, documenting the continuation of these two public roles.
